Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides critical cash assistance for low-income older adults and individuals with disabilities to pay for housing, food, health care, transportation, and other essentials. Under the current rules, which were last updated in 1989, SSI has an exceptionally low resource limit of $2,000 for an individual, and $3,000 for a married couple. In this webinar, presenters will explain the SSI resource rules, strategies to address common problems, and policy solutions. Who Should Attend: • Aging, disability and legal aid providers • Aging and disability advocates • Other professionals who work with individuals who may be eligible for SSI Key Takeaways: • Understand how resources and the resource limit can affect SSI eligibility; • Identify what does not count toward the resource limit; • Identify strategies to resolve common SSI resource problems; and • Gain knowledge on poverty traps and identify policy solutions that would help older adults and people with disabilities save money and plan for the future.
