Twenty Dignity Alliance Massachusetts individual and organizational participants, including those named below, endorse the following statement:
To promote the quality of support provided by airport employees and their retention, we urge Massport to require all lessees, permittees, contractors, and subcontractors operating at Boston Logan International Airport to comply with the following requirements:
- Ensure that all currently employed workers receive passenger service training focused on disability access, and that newly hired employees receive such training before engaging with passengers, at no cost to the employee.
- Raise wage and benefit requirements to levels that can reduce turnover to maximize the value of training. This includes a 5-year wage schedule with annual $1 increases and raising required health benefits, paid vacation, and holidays to the level of federally contracted service workers, which is a reasonable and expert-vetted standard.
Passengers with disabilities deserve to travel with safety, comfort, and dignity. Airport service workers deserve a livable wage and benefits, and the training to excel in their jobs. This policy is a critical and overdue investment in service at Logan Airport, and we urge its passage.
